πŸŽ‰ 2024 End-of-Year Music Recital πŸŽ‰

We’re thrilled to announce that our end-of-year recital is scheduled for Monday, June 10th 2024 from 6pm (performance times to be decided). The event will take place at the legendary recording studio Kensington Sound, located downtown in Kensington Market. We want the recital to be a relaxed atmosphere and taking part for students is entirely optional.

Tickets will be $15 per adult (children go free!), and an audio recording of the recital will be available to purchase on a pay-what-you-feel basis. For tickets please visit here.

A few updates before the recital:

  • Arrival Time: The doors will be open for audience members to arrive from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm. During this time, some students will be line-checking on stage to get appropriate levels and become accustomed to the performance area we will have set up (I'll let you know in advance who those students are). Refreshments will also be provided for guests and performers.

  • Program Notes: A scheduled email will be sent out at 6:00pm on June 10th. Some students will be performing more than one or more pieces (tutors have confirmed these for the program notes now). Performances in the schedule will be varied to best support the audio recording element of the concert (for those who've opted in) and stage changes depending on the type of performance.

  • Photography: If you would like photos of your child's performance to save as a memento, please reply to this email indicating your permission ("I give permission for my child to have photos taken during their performance"). Photos will be provided at no cost and will be shared with you via a secure link for you to download at your convenience. There will be strictly no flash photography. Additionally, Montcrest School will receive a copy, which may be used in the Montcrest Mirror. Please note that we will not post or use these photos on our website or social media. Students who do not wish to have their photo taken will be made known to our photographer, so you only need to reply to opt in (please also feel free to take photos and video when it's your child's turn).

  • Parking: The Green P car park closest to the studio can only be entered from St Andrews Street at the moment due to construction, the Baldwin Street entrance is closed for cars but can be accessed easily by pedestrians. There is also street parking available outside as well. There is also another car park available on Bellevue Avenue which is a 6 minute walk away.

  • Location: When you arrive at the studio at 170A Baldwin Street, the door to enter the studio is slightly nondescript, here is the street view image to help direct you. The entrance to the studio is in between the restaurant (below the studio) and Blackbird Baking Co.

About Kensington Sound

Established in 1971, Kensington Sound holds a rich history of producing iconic recordings and has been the creative hub for numerous legendary Canadian artists, including Sharon Lois and Bram, Alanna Myles, Jeff Healey, Teenage Head, Murray Mclauchlan, among others. The studio is nestled in the heart of Kensington Market on Baldwin Street, and offers a unique glimpse into the music industry's past and present, with its 70s-style ambiance and historic significance.

We'll be utilizing the newly renovated front lounge concert space, reminiscent of the 'tiny desk' concert series. The space is equipped for both performances and recordings by making use of the studio's vintage and modern recording equipment including: amps, microphones, Drum kits, Guitars, PA, stands, cables, recording console and more.

Piano students will have the opportunity to play on a limited edition & one-of-a-kind Schimmel Concert Grand Piano which was recently donated. This is a great opportunity for students to gain valuable performance experience.

Travel & Parking

The closest and most convenient parking available is at the Green P across the road from the studio. For public transit the best option would be to take the subway from Broadview to Spadina, and then take the southbound streetcar to Spadina Ave at Nassau St. Please note the performance space does have stairs as you come through the main entrance of the building.
